Barossa Valley, Australia
The Langmeil property has been
under vines since the early 1840's, then belonged to Christian Auricht. It
was not until 1932 that a winery was established on the site by J S Hanisch,
a descendant of Christian Auricht. However it was sold in 1996 to two
cousins, Carl & Richard Lindner along with brotherin law Chris Bitter. The
total production of this estate is 10,000 cases per annum, in which 2
hectares of vines were planted In 1846 & the fruit from this wines are use
for their flagship wine “The Freedom Shiraz”.
The winery only processes
Barossa Valley fruit for its own label & as acknowledged on the Shiraz
label, "when you start with the finest fruit, it's really not that
difficult" to produce premium wine.

LANGMEIL
Selwin’s Lot Cabernet Grenache Shiraz 1998
RM65.10
Medium red-purple, the
bouquet has very strong chocolate aromas tinged with vanilla oak. This
medium weight palate runs through more of that sweet chocolate to spicy
berry fruit to a hint of jammy fruit from the Grenache. The firm tannin
needs to soften a touch, but the wine has real substance.

LANGMEIL Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
RM86.00
Medium to full red-purple; strong
blackberry/blackcurrant fruit with some vanilla oak provides an attractive
bouquet. The palate has plenty of depth & richness to the chunky fruit, &
the oak is in balance. Should develop well. Rated: 85 / 100 Winepros –

LANGMEIL Shiraz 1998
RM94.00
Excellent varietal aromas of juicy ripe plums
& blackberries with a lovely oak complexity. The firm powerful palate is
flooded with long sweet ripe flavours & soft full tannins. A well made
wine that promises to age well.

LANGMEIL The Freedom Shiraz 1998
* RM239.50
The Auricht family planted the first Shiraz
vineyard at Langmeil in the mid 1840s. A few acres still remain - dry
grown, hand picked, hand pruned, yielding 1˝ to 2 tonnes per acre,
producing fruit with extreme intensity of colour & flavour, aged in oak
for two years & then bottle-aged until its release in late 2000.
Because this wine is from a small single vineyard the number of cases
produced can never be increased. However the vineyard will continue to
produce the best fruit it can which will reflect the vintage year *** Langmeil The Freedom Shiraz is on allocation only, please call to
enquire. |
